To watch Stephen A. Smith on ESPN’s “First Take,” many would forget that he’s an award winning journalist. Not that Smith is bad on the show, it’s just that he’s taken on a persona that overshadows his talents as a writer.
Today, Smith was on the show apologizing to Carmelo Anthony for criticizing him about comments made to Columnist Marc Stein regarding “Melo” being satisfied if he doesn’t win an NBA Championship. Sports is big business, and sports fans want to know that the players they support are hungry for the chip. Melo has had a great career, but the reality is that unless he’s traded to either Cleveland or Golden State in the next few years, that “chip” will probably elude him.
