The old adage that what is done in the dark comes to light applies to former entertainment Icon Bill Cosby. Cosby is almost 80 years old and facing the trial of his life for alleged sexual assault offenses that occurred in his past. If convicted Bill Cosby is facing up to 10 years in prison, and with his health already failing, it’s arguable that Cosby would never see freedom again unless a lesser sentence is negotiated.
Opening statements for Cosby’s trial began yesterday in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. Cosby’s former television daughter Keshia Knight Pulliam accompanied him into the courtroom for the proceedings. Philly.com chronicles the day one proceedings, and it’s lurid and nothing we haven’t heard before concerning Cosby’s past behavior. Kelly Johnson, one of 2 Cosby accusers who will testify told jurors about being given a pill by the comedian and finding herself undressed and not remembering what happened to her. Cosby is of course stating that all contact with his victims was consensual, although he acknowledges dispensing pills to his alleged victims.
It will be interesting to see if a jury in suburban Philadelphia will convict a Philadelphia Icon who is in a trial for his life and freedom.
